A new dawn with Clipsal Solis™

PDL says the newly launched Clipsal Solis™ Collection is a unique range of light switches and sockets that sets a new benchmark in the electrical category and partners perfectly with exceptional architecture and residential design projects.

Designed specifically for the high-end residential market, Solis and Solis T Series feature detailed design elements that cohesively pair with home design elements in adjacent categories, such as tapware and benchtops.

The company says Solis has been designed with New Zealand homes top of mind, incorporating world-class design and premium finishes, backed by Schneider Electric’s world-leading research and development.

According to PDL general manager Jarad Dinneen, the Solis range was designed in consultation with interior designers, architects, electricians, and residential homeowners, creating an offering that eliminates any of the industry's common pain points when it comes to light switches and sockets.

PDL has stood side-by-side with Kiwi sparkies, delivering world-leading electrical innovations for 87 years.,” says Dinneen. “The Solis range is no exception. We created the Solis range to meet the needs of those who desire a beautiful, functional product that could sit easily in high-end projects, while satisfying the technical requirements of electricians.

“The new range has been created with architects, interior designers and design aesthetics in mind, providing them with an electrical product as carefully considered as their commissioned works. Solis might be a small part of their overall design, but it brings an important level of quality and attention to detail to residential projects,” says Dinneen.

Peta Davy, Design Studio Manager at Yellowfox Auckland, says, “Switching and power point profiles are elements often overlooked by designers when specifying products for a new home. However, when chosen thoughtfully, they can add that perfect finishing touch, and can elevate a space from ordinary to exceptional.

“The new Solis range from PDL addresses a prevalent demand in the market. Its ultra-thin, nearly flush profile, combined with retro toggle, knob switches and dimmers, are ideal for our discerning clientele. The finishing options exude a quiet, understated elegance that is both timeless and sophisticated,” says Davy.

Jim Hannon-Tan, the project’s lead designer alongside the Asia Pacific Design Lab team, designed Solis to use playful asymmetry references such as ‘golden rectangle’, and pure geometric forms.

Solis is available in two series. For those who prefer monochromatic switches and sockets, the Solis series is a pushbutton range and features a fine matte texture in black and white, while the Solis T-series features unique toggle switches. It was created to elevate designs further and is available in brushed brass, anodised aluminium, and white ceramic.

“Power points and light switches may sit in a wall for up to 30 years, so it’s important that they are built to withstand New Zealand conditions with design themes that are consistent across decades. We touch light switches more often than other home items, so it should feel luxurious each time,” says Dinneen.

The Solis range is available New Zealand-wide through electricians and PDL’s authorised wholesalers. For more information about the Solis range, visit https://www.pdl.co.nz/pdl-media-centre/home-owner-blogs/solis-design-story
